VoIP creates two types of network traffic – the call control messages used to setup and manage connections between users, and the digitally encoded voice conversations. The call setup and management protocols involve simple messaging between IP phones and an IP PBX. These protocols use very little bandwidth and they do not have stringent latency requirements.
